The figures we publish as evidence had fallen behind reality. They now read 1.7M+ files converted, 18% average Google click-through rate and average ranking position 5.0, matching Search Console and our live counter. Page titles were also rewritten to say plainly what each page does.

Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook on 16 July 2026. It is the same product, and DeckEdit works with decks exported under either name. Both names now appear across the site so you can find us whichever one you search for.

Selecting part of the text inside a text box now brings up a small toolbar just above it, with bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, four text colours and a button that clears formatting back to the text box default. The keyboard shortcuts still work and do exactly the same thing. If your selection mixes styled and unstyled words, the toolbar says so instead of guessing, and pressing a button applies the style to all of it.

A text box that had both word-level styling and a link produced a PowerPoint file that PowerPoint asked to repair, and a styled bulleted list lost its bullets from the second line down. Both are fixed, and the export is now checked by opening the generated file and verifying its internal references, not just the settings we hand to the export library. Decks without word-level styling were never affected.

A text box no longer has to look the same all the way through. Select any part of the text and make just that part bold, italic, underlined, struck through or a different colour, with Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I and Ctrl+U (Cmd on a Mac). The styling stays attached to the words as you keep typing around it, it survives undo and redo, and it exports to PowerPoint as real formatted text you can keep editing there.

Attach a web address or an email address to any text box, image, shape or block. The link works while you present, it stays clickable in the exported PDF, and it becomes a real PowerPoint hyperlink. Only web and email addresses are accepted, and typing a bare address such as deckedit.com is completed for you.

Turn on shrink-to-fit and a text box keeps its content inside the frame instead of overflowing it. Your chosen font size is not overwritten: switch the option off, or make the box bigger, and the text goes straight back to the size you set. The same behaviour is carried into PowerPoint, so it keeps working when you edit the file there.

Trim an image down to the part you want without leaving the page. Drag the frame to choose what stays, and the pixels you keep stay exactly where they were on the slide. Nothing is thrown away: widen the frame again, or press Reset crop, and the whole picture comes back. Cropped images look the same in the editor, in present mode and in every export.

Write your talking points beside each slide. Notes are saved with the deck and land in the PowerPoint notes pane when you export, so you can read them in Presenter View. Slides you leave blank stay blank, with no empty notes page added.

Give any slide a solid background colour. It shows the same way everywhere: on the canvas, in present mode, in the thumbnails, and in the PNG, PDF and PowerPoint files you export, where it becomes a real slide background. Clearing the colour brings the original slide back untouched.

Fade a shape or round off a rectangle, and both settings carry into PowerPoint exactly as you see them on the canvas. Transparency applies to the fill and the outline together, and the corner radius arrives as a real rounded rectangle you can keep adjusting.

Rectangles, ellipses, lines and arrows now arrive in PowerPoint as real shapes instead of pictures. You can recolour them, resize them, change the outline, and they stay sharp on a projector. Rotation and transparency come across too. If a shape uses something PowerPoint cannot describe, it is exported as an image so it still looks exactly right, and the reason is written to the browser console rather than hidden.

Select several elements and press Ctrl+G (Cmd+G on Mac) to group them. After that, clicking any one of them selects the whole group, so they move, nudge, align and delete together. Shift+Ctrl+G ungroups. Copies of a group stay grouped on their own, without being tied back to the original.

Finished with a background or a header? Lock it. A locked element cannot be dragged, resized, rotated, nudged or deleted by accident, but you can still edit its text and styling. Duplicating a locked element gives you an unlocked copy you can place right away.

A Present button in the editor opens a clean fullscreen slideshow. Arrow keys or space to move, Esc to come back. Slides are drawn with exactly the same engine as your PNG and PDF exports, so what you project is what you export.

Drag the rotate handle on the canvas, or type an exact angle in the properties panel. Rotation survives undo, autosave, PNG and PDF, and PowerPoint receives it as a real rotation you can keep adjusting there.

Select several elements and line them up left, centre, right, top, middle or bottom, or space them evenly across or down. Each action is one undo step.

The editor feature copy described the Insert palette and the ready-made slide templates as one thing, and gave examples that did not match either. It now describes them separately: text, icons, shapes and structured blocks in the Insert palette, and full-slide templates such as KPI dashboard, agenda, roadmap and pricing tiers that you can add to the current slide or use to start a new one.

Key pages now state it plainly: no account, no login, no upload, no payment. The guide explains why that is structural rather than a trial, and lists the only real limits, which are technical: 30MB per file and 50 pages per deck.

We added a new troubleshooting guide at /guide/ocr-errors-explained and rewrote the surfaced OCR error messages so they name the likely cause — file too large, unsupported browser, GPU driver timeout, or iOS memory limit — and link straight to the guide. The Diagnostics page and error-report suggestions now also point there. New FAQ entries cover "GPU disconnected" and "iOS failure". All copy is available in English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

We added Microsoft Clarity to see how visitors use our public pages, so we can improve them. It never starts on the editor or your decks library: opening or refreshing those pages sends nothing to Clarity at all. It also loads 3 seconds after the page appears, so it does not slow anything down. Your slides live on a canvas that Clarity cannot read by design, and deck titles, thumbnails, and the text editing box are additionally marked as hidden. Nothing you upload or edit leaves your device.

Fixed a bug where text appeared compressed or malformed after committing an edit. The text box now correctly preserves your editing dimensions — what you see during editing is exactly what you get after committing.

The text editing box now grows rightward as you type, matching how text editors work in Canva and Google Slides. No more cramped, wrapping text in small regions.

Text editing now happens directly on the canvas — double-click any text region to edit it in place. The side panel becomes a focused formatting inspector for font size, color, alignment, and styling.

When your PDF uses different fonts for headings and body text, DeckEdit now automatically applies the correct font to each. Headings get the heading font, body text gets the body font — matching your original document design.

Fonts like Calibri, Google Sans, and Arial are now replaced with metric-compatible open-source alternatives (Carlito, Inter, Arimo) when unavailable on your system. Text spacing and line breaks stay consistent with the original layout.

Added recognition for Noto Sans/Serif (Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese variants) and Zen Old Mincho. CJK documents now get accurate font matching instead of falling back to generic sans-serif.

Toggle bold and italic formatting on any text region using the toolbar or side panel. Control vertical text alignment (top, middle, bottom) within each region for precise positioning.

After analyzing a page, all original text is automatically removed from the background. Every text region becomes a fully editable overlay — no more "ghost text" artifacts when moving or resizing text.

The Bring Forward and Send Back buttons now actually change the visual stacking order of text regions in both the preview and exported files. Previously, these buttons updated internal state but had no visual effect.

Align text left, center, or right within any text region — available in both the floating toolbar and the side panel, accurately reflected in PNG and PDF exports.

Fixed an issue where moving or resizing a text region would cause the background cover to be drawn at the original position during export, creating visual artifacts. The cover and text overlay now stay perfectly aligned.

A floating toolbar now appears above your selected text region in the editor. Quickly change font size, text color, alignment, and layer order without navigating to the side panel.

Fonts in your converted slides now match the original document style. DeckEdit automatically detects whether your source uses serif, sans-serif, or monospace fonts and applies the correct font type in both the preview and downloaded file.

Fixed issues where font size changes didn't fully cover original text at export, and where color changes could inadvertently affect other text regions. Text edits are now precisely scoped to the selected region.

Fixed an issue where editing text on one slide could affect the same-positioned text on other slides. Each slide's text regions are now fully isolated — edits on one page never leak to another.

Closing brackets, parentheses, and quotation marks are no longer stripped during text recognition. Technical content with parentheticals like "(see Figure 3)" now exports correctly.

Fixed an issue where text in exported PowerPoint files could have slightly different font sizes line-to-line within the same paragraph. Lines that look identical on the original slide now export with perfectly matching font sizes.

Keith Li started building DeckEdit solo as a disciplined Agentic Engineering project (before Andrej Karpathy named the discipline in February 2026) to solve the NotebookLM slide editing problem.
